An important factor that determines the good heath in your dog is its diet. Fresher and more natural food it gets, higher will be the nutrient contents it is likely to get. This will in turn help in improving the immune system of the dog to enable it to ward off diseases and illnesses. There’s no better way than feeding your puppy with natural and organic food. This will surely provide ample chance for it to lead a happy and healthy life later in its adulthood.

Before considering a food for your dog you need to realize the pros and cons between non-organic and organic foods that you can give them. Few people believe that organic foods are more expensive than their non-organic counterparts. Well, this isn’t the case really.

The first known canned pet food that came into existence was known as Kibbles. This was way back in the 1950s. We are always reminded that feeding dogs with human food is unhealthy. Incidentally, feeding these creatures with wrong type of canned food can be equally unhealthy. In order to retain their nutritional level, certain canned dog foods are added with supplements. However, not all these supplements are good for dog’s health. However, this isn’t the case with organic or natural dog foods. In fact, some of the commercial dog foods have added supplements related to this in order to make them a perfect choice for most dogs.

Grains of different kinds are often included in the list ingredients used in preparing canned food or non-organic kibble. Interestingly, this isn’t an ingredient that is hit with dogs as they are typically carnivores and their body systems are not made to digest them. One of the reasons why most manufacturers include grains in the ingredients list is because they are inexpensive and dogs can survive on them for a given period of time before encountering various health problems. Meat is another ingredient that is often mentioned in these lists. However, it has to be realized that they are cooked for prolonged periods and hence are likely to have lost their nutritional values.

Given below are some tips that can help you while buying commercial dog food:

• Do not ever purchase commercial dog food that contains preservatives like BHA, ethoxyquin and BHT. Instead, you need to choose organic foods that contain natural preservatives like tocopherols and different types of vitamins.

• Avoid using canned foods for your dogs. These foods essentially contain a mixture of low-quality grains, part of dead animals, etc and are marketed in a way so as to appeal to most dog owners.

• Avoid dog foods that contain grain content in them.

• Do not use food products that contain multiple by-products.
